As Christ-followers, we have impact outside the four walls of our churches. Church isn’t just about Sunday morning hymns, potlucks, and Bible studies—it’s a call to outwork the Lord’s redemption, restoration, and hope in the world around us. And this call can lead us to places and people we never anticipated.
Women of God, it is our time to rise up and fight back against human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings. It is the recruitment, control, and use of people for their bodies and their labor and it currently affects millions of men, women, and children around the world. Consider this frightening fact: there are more slaves right now than ever before in human history.
When we first learn about the issue of modern-day slavery, we can be overwhelmed by our natural feelings of sadness, disgust, and anger. At first, it seems easier to look away. But the great love of Jesus Christ that is alive and at work within us can empower us to take action. Our response can reflect what we know and believe about God.
Right now, we have the opportunity to be conduits of God’s goodness and righteous justice. Proverbs 31:8-9 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.”
The God of the universe has entrusted us—yes, us!—to be advocates for the marginalized both in our own communities and across the globe.
We are invited to shine a light into the darkest corners of human experience and existence.
My sisters, a global problem like human trafficking requires a global response, and we the Church have a critical role to play! As women who are leading within our spheres of influence and engaging in our local communities, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus, fueled by the profound hope we have through Christ.
Will you speak up? Will you step out? We can see a world without slavery. And when we do, it will be because women like you and like me recognized our place in the fight for freedom.
